Your September reset
Uhhh, I don't want to freak anyone out... but it's nearly September.
Where did the time go? I feel like when I started writing this, it was August 1st, and I had a long summer ahead. WTAF 🤯
But you know, the last few months of the year have always been super important to me. It's when I'm laser-focused on leveling up in my career and finishing the year strong. Call me crazy, but I get a real boost of motivation at this time of year. I've always been the one to work better under a time crunch (grimaces at memories of uni assignment deadlines 8000 years ago).
There are things you can do to OWN these next four months too. Block off all distractions and center yourself. We're working on our Glow Zone after all. You matter, and so do your goals.
Imagine how incredible you'll feel looking back on 2024, having achieved that ONE goal you've been working towards all year. Friend, it's time to double down and make serious progress.
I know you likely have a million competing priorities. But what's one main objective you can rally your time and energy around? A promotion? Spearheading a new project? Expanding your network? Making a critical skills investment?
Get clear on the one needle-moving goal that will elevate your career and empower you as a leader. Then make a plan and block off time each week to chip away at it. I literally block off time in my own diary to focus on my core goal. With a busy house, a 5-year-old, and a business to run, it's the only way I lock this time in.
Find what works for you.
Looking for a way to really centralize your focus career-wise? Here are some ideas for your 2024 see-out goals:
- Complete a course or certification to move you closer to a promotion or goal.
- Make 20 new strategic connections through events and networking (it's not icky, and it's all about WHO you know).
- Take on new projects to get more visible at work.
- Have 5 informational interviews to learn from senior leaders.
- Get clarity on your 3-year career roadmap.
- Implement a more visible personal brand across LinkedIn.
- Secure a mentor who can advise and sponsor you.
- Set up a meeting with leadership to make the case for a promotion.
- Make a skills investment plan for next year's learning/development (I do this every year and even set myself a budget).
- Attend conferences/events to expand your perspective.
The key is identifying 1-2 critical goals to rally your focus, energy and time around over the next four months. Remember, your goals should be important to YOU. Don't get yourself caught in a space where you're checking off someone else's dream. It's important you are motivated and inspired by this goal, and that it's moving you towards something positive.
Announcing something awesome!
I went out to a women's networking group I am a part of last week to ask if anyone wanted to contribute to a new feature in this newsletter, sharing how you found your own Glow Zone. The take up has been WILD, and we've already got 7 amazing women ready to share their stories here in the coming months 👇
